Super C

Super C is the NES version of the arcade game Super Contra. It is the second game in Konami's Contra run 'n gun series.

The alien forces from Contra have taken over a base in South America. Bill Rizer and Lance Bean return and continue to fight the invasion. The aliens have infected most of the troops from that base leaving the two to battle the infected human soldiers and the alien threat. 

The game features the standard horizontal scrolling levels, and the top down levels from the arcade version. The top down levels replace the 3d bases from the first game. They play like top down shooters in which the players progress upwards through the a base to defeat the boss.

The NES version of Super C adds 3 new levels not included in the arcade version for a total of 8 levels. The new levels are vertically scrolling stages which include new bosses. Other changes from the arcade includes a different order of the later stages, a new final boss, and a different flare gun which spreads on enemy impact. 

Super C is followed up by the SNES title Contra 3: The Alien Wars, and the Genesis title Contra: Hard Corps. The arcade version is available on Xbox Live Arcade and the NES version is available on Wii Virtual Console.
