Alpha Mission II is a vertical shoot'em up and the sequel to the SNK arcade title Alpha Mission. The game was deisgned by Eikichi Kawasaki. The 1991 arcade game was originally released for the MVS in Japan as ASO II: Last Guardian.
In Alpha Mission II the player pilots the Armored Scrum Object spacecraft which is equipped with lasers and missiles which can target enemies on the ground.
In the game the player controls a fighter spacecraft (Armored Scrum Object) and can shoot enemies in the air, bomb enemies on the ground. Power-ups can be collected from drones or purchased between stages which can upgrade the armor, laser or missles. Each can be upgraded four times. The weapon upgrades have limited energy, and are lost if the player's ship takes damage. E power ups restore weapon energy.
Other special power-ups include the R item which can put the shuttle in Reverse for a certain distance.
The game contains seven stages each with a boss. Bosses feature weak points which must be shot to destroy the boss.
The game was included on the Neo Geo X released in 2012.
