Aero Fighters 2 (NGAES)

Aero Fighters 2 is a vertical shoot'em up originally released as Sonic Wings 2 in Japan for the Neo Geo MVS on August 26 1994. It is the follow-up to the MVS title Aero Fighters which was released as an MVS arcade title and SNES port in North America. The game features two player simultaneous play.

The game has a roster of 8 pilots each with their own specific jet. Each jet has it's own strengths and weaknesses.

Pilots/Jets include:
Robo-Keaton/F-117A NIGHTHAWK
Captain Silver/OA-10 THUNDERBOLT II
Hien/FIGHTER SUPPORT X
Mao Mao/F-15 EAGLE
Cindy & Ellen/F-14 TOMCAT
Spanky (Whity in Japan)/YF-23A BLACK WIDOW II
Steve (Angela in Japan)/RAFALE M
Bobby/SEA HARRIER FRS.2

The game includes 10 stages including Japan, Brazil, Atlantic, U.S.A, France, Australlia, Himalayas, Mexico, Hawaii, and Space. The order of stages used for stage 2, 4, and 5 are mixed up on every playthough.

Each stage ends in a timed boss battle. If the player takes too long to destroy the boss, it will self destruct and the player will earn no points for that fights.

Each player can fire their standard weapon, and drop bombs. Weapon power-ups and additional bombs can be collected throughout the levels. Power-ups include the P item which increases the weapon one level, or the F item which increases the weapon to it's strongest level for a specific amount of shots and the B item which grants an additional bomb. Money pickups increase the player's score.

The game is followed up with the MVS title Aero Fighters 3. A hoax was released in 2013 in which 3 US AES production cartridges were found. One sold for $30,000 but later that year it was discovered that the cartridges were elaborate reproductions.
