Chubby Cherub (NES)

Chubby Cherub is a localized port of the Famicom game Obake no Q-taro: WanWan Panic, which was originally released in Japan on December 16, 1985.

The original Japanese version is based on the manga Obake no Q-taro and has the player in control of the ghost Q-taro. In the North American version, this character is changed to a cupid inspired character entitled Chubby Cherub.

In this game, the player must find 12 of their friends who have been kidnapped, while avoiding dogs along the way.

Chubby Cherub can move along the ground and jump, or take the air. A power gauge determines how long they player can stay in the air and can be replenished by eating the food scattered throughout the stage.

Dogs, including beagles and bulldogs, in the level will bark at Chubby Cherub as he approaches them. If the bark shapes emitted from the dog come into contact with Cherub, the player loses a life.

The player can remove dogs from the stage by shooting hearts at them. Hearts are obtained by collecting lollipops in the level.

The game features 12 levels. At the end of each level, the player must collect fruit to open windows and try to find the window which contains their friend. At mid points in the stage the game will not allow Chubby Cherub to travel further and the player will need to collect the items on screen in order to advance.
