Adventures of Batman & Robin (Genesis)

The Adventures of Batman & Robin was a video game based on the Adventures of Batman and Robin cartoon series, which was based on the popular DC comics character Batman. The cartoon itself was actually renamed to that after the first season which was simply title Batman: The Animated Series.

The Genesis version of the game plays very differently from the SNES and Sega CD versions and was developed by Sega. The game allows for single player or 2 player simultaneous play. The game is a run and gun action title in which Batman and/or Robin run through stages while under a constant barrage of approaching enemies. They can throw batarands constantly to take out enemies or melee attack from up close.

In the stages they can jump between different levels, and hang off certain areas to attack enemies below. The players can also collect power-ups which restore life, or change their batarangs into bolas or shirukens.

In certain areas of the stages the game changes into a horizontal shoot 'em up with the players controlling the Batwings and shooting down enemies.

The plot in the game revolves around Batman and Robin attempting to stop Mr. Freeze from freezing Gotham, along the way they have to battle the prisoners that Freeze has freed and sent after them.

The four stages include:

Level One: Happy Birthday to Me! (Bosses include: Harley's Robot, Harley Quinn, and Joker)
Level Two: A Two-Sided Story (Bosses include: Two-Face's airship, Airship, and Two-Face)
Level Three: Tea Time! (Bosses include: Cheshire Cat, Giant Tweedle-Dum, and Mad Hatter)
Level Four: Snow in July? (With Mr. Freeze as the final Boss)

The game is known for it's high difficulty level, and for being a good technical showcase for what the Genesis could do with graphics and special effects. It also features a soundtrack by Jesper Kyd.
