ATP Tour Championship Tennis is a Genesis tennis game developed by SMS Co., Ltd. The game features several modes including ATP tour, exhibition match, exhibition tournament and ATP Senior Tour.
The ATP Tour mode allows the player to create a tennis player by setting their birth date, nationality, height, weight, and several characteristics, such as making the player right or left-handed, and choosing two moves for backhand and forehand each.
Once the game starts, the user is placed at the bottom of the rankings, and can choose to participate in the following ATP tournaments:
Newsweek Champions Cup, The Lipton Championships, Japan Open, Monte Carlo Open, German Open, Italian Open, Canadian Open, Thriftway ATP Championship, Stockholm Open, Paris Open, IBM/ATP Tour World Championships
In this mode, the player can select from a variety of combinations, ranging from a singles game against the computer, another person, or just watching a match, or they can play a doubles game with up to four players at the same time.
The player can create a singles tournament, customizing parameters such as the length of matches, and choose between four kinds of surfaces (clay, hard, carpet and grass).
