When the Atari 2600 invaded homes its key feature of being able to switch games and purchase new cartridges, it really shaped what the current game market came to be. It wasn’t the first home console, but it was the first to gain the recognition and sales that launched the gaming boom of the 1980’s. With many competitors, and the eventual Nintendo fever that followed, everyone wanted in on the home gaming industry.
